This year the Vegetable sector held one national competition to select the representative to go through to the NZ Horticulture ITO - Young Horticulturist of the Year - 2007 Competition

This year the Vegetable Grower competition has been fortunate in having Ravensdown as the Naming sponsor for the regional Competition.

This years regional competition Vegetable Growers competition was held in:

• Christchurch - 31st May

This years Vegetable Grower competition sector was held in Christchurch and was a closely fought battle between three competitors.

• Troy Matthews of Canterbury a grower of Capsicum

• Nigel McCartin of Canterbury a grower of Potatoes

• Geoff van Rijen of Waikato a grower of Tomatoes

Congratulations to Jeff van Rijen who won on the day and will carry on to represent the Vegetable Growers sector at the National finals of the NZ Horticulture ITO - Young Horticulturist of the Year - 2007 Competition in November. Jeff works at Rembrandt van Rijen Limited in the Waikato.
