These sectors will be represented by Amanda Fisher, who manages Carppe Gardens, located in Whangarei.
Amanda (28), is the manager of Carppe Gardens, Whangarei, growing cymbidiums for cut flowers, Amanda is surrounded by 14,000 plants producing blooms for export. During the peak season of May to November more than 90% of Carppe’s crop goes to Japan, America and Dubai.
After leaving school Amanda moved to Whangarei from Gisborne to work for a florist. She continues her floristry work in her spare time, but has found more satisfaction in a position which entails everything to do with growing flowers, including staff management, shade house maintenance, spraying, grading and packing.
She is responsible for producing the colours demanded by the market, for example, the brash reds loved by the Americans and whites and pale pinks required for the Japanese market.
