The landscape representative was selected at the Landscape conference in Auckland, 14-16th August. The winner was Darren Barrett.

Darren (24), of Birkenhead, Auckland, is a team leader with Natural Habitats, one of New Zealand’s leading design and build landscape companies. In his seventh year with the company, Darren’s responsibilities include organising materials, running sites and liaising with designers and clients. 

The physical, construction aspect of the landscape industry appeals to Darren, as does the horticultural side where he enjoys learning about the plants he is using. Job satisfaction comes from coming onto an overgrown or bare site and transforming it. Darren compares it to painting a picture on an empty canvas.  Darren has completed his National Certificate in Horticulture Level 4 advanced in Landscaping.

Ambitions include promotion to a more managerial role and to travel.  In his spare time he plays soccer and cricket.
