Steps to getting started with an apprentice in your workplace

Getting Started: Eight Easy Steps

  • Analyse the skills you require for different roles within your business, considering both your present and future needs.

  • Match the skill profiles with available Unit Standards and qualifications.

  • Inform employees of training opportunities available.

  • Prepare a Training Plan for your staff.
(this does not need to be complex and your Regional Manager can help you with this).

  • Enter into Training Agreements with your staff.

  • Register each staff members Training Agreement with the NZ Horticulture ITO.

  • Assist employees with training/assessment of training towards their National Certificate/Training objectives.

  • Enjoy the outcome of having qualified and skilled staff.

Identifying your training needs

By looking carefully at the qualifications that are available, and answering some basic questions your NZHITO Representative will help you develop a training plan that reflects your business and employees training needs.

Training your employees can result in giving you more time to improve your business or the ability to take time out if so desired.
