Training Agreements

What types of Training Agreements are there available to employers?

There are the two types of training agreement - a Modern Apprentice Agreement and the NZHITO Trainee Agreement.

Agreement Modern Apprentice Training agreements are offered to trainees intending to study towards a 3-4 year National Certificate in Horticulture and who meet the following criteria:

  • aged between 16 and 21 years old

  • must have a signed Individual Training Plan with their employer and Modern Apprentice Coordinator that is revisited on a quarterly basis.

  • working or about to be working in the horticulture industry

  • having a valid training agreement, (training agreements are site specific)
    -   the employer on the training agreement must be the current employer
    -   if they change employment, but remain within the industry a new training
agreement must be signed with the new employer
    -   unfortunately, if the trainee changes employment and leaves the industry
their training agreement with NZHITO will lapse, even if they still have
           incomplete training packages

NZHITO Adult Trainee Agreements

Adult trainees intending to study towards a National Certificate in Horticulture, who don’t meet the Modern Apprentice criteria above, can still do training with the NZHITO.

You just have to meet all the entry criteria for a modern apprenticeship except the age criteria, and we can get you started in a training prgramme.

NZHITO accepts trainees as Modern Apprentices on a first in first served basis. If we have met our TEC allocation for Modern Apprentices the trainee is offered a NZHITO Trainee Agreement that entitles each to the same support and benefits as a Modern Apprentice.
