Floristry – where creativity, design and flair can come to the fore. Floristry is one of the newest sectors to be introduced by the NZHITO.

Floristry Courses Available

We are currently offering three National Certificates in Floristry:

National Certificate in Floristry (Level 2)
National Certificate in Floristry (Level 4)

National Certificate in Floristry (Advanced) (Level 4)

 

Dates

Training is designed to occur while you are in employment, so you can start training with the NZHITO anytime during the year.

 

Duration

National Certificates in Floristry:
Level 2 - 72 credits - 1 year

Level 4 - 142 credits - 2 years
Level 4 (Advanced) - 212 credits - 3 years

 

The Floristry apprenticeship is designed to take three years to complete, so if you become a modern apprentice you will be working towards the National Certificate in Floristry (Advanced) (Level 4) qualification.
However don't forget that training with the NZHITO is self-paced and competency based, so the harder you work at your qualification the quicker you can complete it.

 

Location

The majority of your training will take place in your place of work, however it maybe necessary for you to attend some training away from your workplace when we cover specialist areas of study.

 

Entry Criteria

You need be employed within the horticulture industry and have a desire to learn.
If you don't yet have a job in horticulture your locally based NZHITO representative may be able to help you find one.

 

Course content

flowering plants and foliage knowledge, floriculture, principles and elements of floristry design, customer requirements, quality service, maintenance and care of fresh flowers and plants; preparation, arrangement, and presentation of floristry stock and merchandise; prepare, wire, assemble, wrap, and package floristry products to a specific design, specialist product knowledge in floristry and sales; prepare, construct, and evaluate hand tied floral designs; prepare, construct, and evaluate floral designs using a base medium to design specifications for a range of purposes and occasions, client consultation, estimation, planning, production, and coordinating skills; implementation of floristry products and services plans, production of customised and advanced floristry designs on a range of scales, and for a range of purposes and occasions.
